Biography and Educational Philosophy
All About Me
I was born in Houston, and have been fortunate enough to live in many areas of Texas throughout my child and adult life. I graduated from Sam Houston University with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and then moved to San Marcos where I earned my Masters Degree in Elementary Education. Throughout the last 16 years, I have taught 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade.I am extremely excited and honored to be teaching 4th grade at Walnut Springs Elementary and look forward to getting to know my new students.
My husband, son and I moved from Buda to Dripping Springs in 2009. We have 3 amazing children. My son will be starting 6th grade this year, my daughter will be starting 2nd grade, and our youngest daughter just turned 4 and is in Pre K. I love spending time with my family. We enjoy spending time outside, hunting, fishing, watching movies, reading, shopping and going out to eat. I value family and strongly believe in spending quality time together.
Educational Philosophy
I believe we all learn best in a positive and supportive environment. It is my goal that each child in my class feels welcomed, safe, supported and respected. Meaningful learning will take place when children feel respected by the adults and the peers around them. I value the relationships I build with my students, as well as the relationships we build together as a class.
I feel students will feel safe and comfortable when they know what is expected of them. I set high expectations for my students that they can achieve by having structure and daily routine. When children have a daily routine, they feel comfortable and safe. Children also value choices. When expectations are clear and a routine is developed, choices become more manageable. I provide my students choices throughout our daily routine so they feel engaged in our meaningful lessons and activities, as well as feel empowered by being in charge of their own learning.
All children are different and have a variety of learning styles and learn at different levels. I strive to meet the needs of each student by differentiating instruction based on individual needs.
My goal is to have children feel comfortable and safe, value their own choices in their learning development, and meet the needs of every individual student so the highest quality of learning can take place.
